Contest Time!

Today I’m here to share with a you a fun little contest involving your favorite book quotes!
I am totally a fan of going through GoodReads in search of awesome quotes that lead to awesome books (Like with Looking For Alaska by John Green, where I seen the rain quote and totally had to check the book out!) and thought it would make a fun contest!

The Book Depository just came out with some cool new bookmarks that help you share your favorite quotes on social media sites – Quotemarks – and to celebrate that they are giving away some of them to you guys!

Hi everyone! Welcome to the last stop on the Harken Blog Tour! I am more than thrilled to close off Kaleb Nation’s tour for his new YA book Harken!

About the Book

20130214-014151.jpgAfter surviving an assassination attempt, teenager Michael Asher discovers that he is at the center of a worldwide conspiracy reaching higher than any earthly power. A supernatural organization desperately wants him dead. He doesn’t know why. Everyone who might have the answers has already been killed.

Tumbling into a web of international secrets, Michael is forced to fight back and dig up the truth. He begins to question how much of the world is truly as people are led to believe it is. Are there things that humanity is not being told? Who is the puppet master? And how far into the maze can he venture before he is lost forever?

Author Interview

Today I have a little treat for you! An interview with Kaleb Nation, talking all about his new book!

This is your first Young Adult novel after writing 2 Middle Grade books- how was the writing process different for the two?

My first two books were written in third-person, but HARKEN is written in first. I just knew from the beginning that to tell the story in the right way, I had to live it inside Michael’s head. It took a lot of adjusting – I’d say the entire first year of writing was just learning how to tell a story from that perspective.
Switching from Middle Grade to YA wasn’t difficult though. My previous books had always leaned toward older audiences. The biggest difference was that I was older when I wrote HARKEN. I wrote my first Middle Grade when I was 14 and started writing HARKEN when I was 21. I had a lot more life experiences that I could draw from for the book.

Harken has gotten amazing reviews from every person I’ve seen that read it, how does it feel to know people really like something you’ve worked so hard on making?

It’s AWESOME. Every time I release something, whether it’s a book or a Youtube video or even a tweet, I wonder what people will think of it. HARKEN took almost 3 years to complete, so there was a lot of internal anxiety surrounding it. When the reviews started coming in and I saw people tweeting to their friends to go read it, I knew that all my work had been worth it.

What are your plans for future Harken books? Are we going to see any interesting characters introduced in the next books?

Oh yes, lots of new things are on the way for the sequel. I can’t say much about that book yet but there are a lot of clues inside HARKEN.

How is Kaleb Nation, the person we know (and love!) from YouTube, different from Kaleb Nation, the author?

I take my writing seriously. That doesn’t mean my books themselves are serious, I just put a lot of work into them so that readers enjoy my stories.
On the other hand, I don’t take my videos very seriously. I think this is obvious to anyone who’s seen me dress up as a pirate, rap songs about Justin Bieber on a Segway, or talk to my pet chinchilla like she’s a human. Youtube is my fun time because the professional, sophisticated, serious-business writer side falls away, and I can just make funny things for the Internet!
